Description

1L water-cooled flat-four paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle that featured a low gear for off-road use. Modifications include a Yakima roof rack, a GoWesty trailer hitch, a modern stereo, and a CB radio. Some chips and scratches are shown in the photos. A Yakima roof rack and GoWesty trailer hitch with a 2 receiver were previously installed. Complete Westfalia camper vans were equipped with a propane-powered stove, and a dual-power fridge. The propane cylinder can be seen on the driver-side, while the water tank and electrical input are accessed via black flaps. When new, Westfalia camper equipment could be warrantied through VW dealerships. The single-window pop top is reported to be original, and some repairs have been made to the front screen. The steel wheels retain factory covers and wear Triangle Radial F/S tires. Syncro models can be distinguished by the gas tank filler cap, which is behind the front wheel for 2WD models and behind the rear for 4WD models to accommodate the axle. The interior has been modified with the addition of a modern stereo, CB radio, and a currently inoperable Clifford alarm system. The seats and dash look to be in good condition based on the provided photos. The 5-speed manual transaxle utilized the same ratios as the 4-speed unit found in 2WD Vanagons, with an added low-range Gelande gear intended for off-road use. The 4WD system was designed and built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch Works in Graz, Austria, and features a viscous coupling to send power to the front wheels. The Westfalia camper models included a propane-powered stove and refrigerator, a sink, and built-in storage. The rear seat folds flat to make a bed, with additional storage located underneath. The pop-top opens to another bed. The 2. 1L water-cooled flat-four engine produced 95 horsepower with a Bosch digital engine management system. The oil was changed in March 2016 and service records are included from 2014. The Carfax report shows that the van was primarily registered in Bend, Oregon, with two out of state service records included. Filed under: vw
